Instructions
  • If you have a Kennel Name registered with the Kennel Club, please enter it in the first box and the remainder of the dog’s name you would like to check in the second box. What is a Kennel Name?
  • If you are not a Kennel Name holder, please enter the complete name you would like to check in the second box and select the search button.
 

A Guide to Naming

  1. A name must consist of more than one word but not exceed 24 letters (including a Kennel Name).
  2. A name which conflicts with an approved current Kennel Name granted to another person will not be accepted.
  3. A registered name cannot be repeated within a breed.
  4. The surname of the applicant is not acceptable.
  5. A word cannot be repeated when naming puppies.
  6. If a Kennel Name is to be used when registering a litter, the Kennel Name must appear as the first word in the name.
  7. Numbers in figures and initials are not acceptable & abbreviations may be disallowed.
  8. Canine terms are not permissible e.g. ‘dog’, ‘bitch’, ‘kennel’, ‘champion’, ‘Crufts’ and specific names of breeds.

  • This tool is only a guide for naming and all names submitted will be subject to further validation.
  • The Kennel Club reserves the right to refuse any name, which it considers inappropriate or offensive. The Kennel Club retains the right to request a fresh name for any puppy after the registration has been accepted, in the event of a complaint being lodged with the Kennel Club which is upheld.
